Our Methodology &
Approach

Grounded in science, adapted for Africa, and proven in practice — this is how North Willow Gate creates lasting change.

The WILLOW Framework in action
The WILLOW Framework™Proprietary since 2014

The WILLOW Framework™

Developed over our first three years of practice and refined through hundreds of client engagements, the WILLOW Framework is our proprietary, integrated approach to human and organisational development. Unlike generic Western frameworks imported without adaptation, WILLOW was built in Uganda, for Uganda, and resonates deeply with the East African professional context.

Each letter represents a stage in the development journey — from awareness to sustained transformation.

W

Honest, courageous self-assessment — seeing your current reality without defensiveness or distortion.

I

Deep exploration of the beliefs, habits, and assumptions that shape your current patterns of leadership and collaboration.

L

Releasing limiting beliefs, unhelpful patterns, and past narratives that hold back growth and authentic leadership.

L

Acquiring the specific skills, frameworks, and knowledge required for the next stage of professional effectiveness.

O

Applying new capabilities in real-world settings with structured support, feedback, and accountability.

W

Embedding change into identity, habit, and culture so that transformation is self-sustaining long after the programme ends.

The Beliefs Behind Our Work

Safety Enables Growth

Lasting development only occurs when individuals feel psychologically safe to be honest, take risks, and make mistakes without fear of judgement. We create that safety in every session.

Context Is Everything

A framework that works in London may fail in Kampala. We always start by deeply understanding the specific context, culture, and constraints of each client before designing any intervention.

Accountability Drives Change

Insight without action changes nothing. Every programme includes structured accountability mechanisms to ensure that learning translates into consistent, measurable behavioural change.

Systems Outlast Individuals

We aim not just to develop individual leaders, but to help organisations build the systems, cultures, and processes that sustain excellent leadership independently of any single person.

Measurement Matters

We establish clear baselines before every engagement and measure progress rigorously throughout. Impact is not assumed — it is demonstrated with data.

The Person is Whole

We coach the whole person — not just the professional role. Work effectiveness is inseparable from personal wellbeing, values, and life vision, and we hold all of this in our work.

What We Use in Practice

We draw on a curated set of globally validated tools and assessments, carefully selected for their relevance and effectiveness in the East African professional context.

01

Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI)

A world-leading assessment measuring personality from the perspective of reputation — predicting performance, identifying derailers, and clarifying values-driven motivation.

02

ICF-Aligned Coaching Competencies

All coaching engagements follow the International Coaching Federation's core competencies framework, ensuring consistent quality and ethical standards across every session.

03

Lencioni's Five Dysfunctions Model

Used as both a diagnostic and an intervention tool for team development, helping teams identify root causes of dysfunction and build genuine cohesion.

04

360-Degree Leadership Assessments

Custom-designed or third-party 360 assessments providing multi-rater feedback on leadership effectiveness, communication, and team impact.

05

DISC Behavioural Profiling

Used in team development and communication programmes to help participants understand behavioural styles and adapt their approach for greater effectiveness.

06

Appreciative Inquiry (AI)

A strengths-based approach to organisational change and culture development, particularly effective in East African contexts where deficit-focused approaches often create resistance.

Training in action

Every Session. Every Client. The Same Standard.

We hold ourselves to the highest possible standards in every engagement — regardless of the client's size or budget.
